APOIKIA

Utilization of new technologies for analysing ancient DNA in contemporary interdisciplinary study and promoting ancient Corinthian colonization. The examples of ancient Amvrakia and ancient Tenea as demonstration installations.

This research project of emblematic character approaches the colonization phenomenon in antiquity by focusing on studying and promoting ancient biological remains and material evidence of our cultural heritage. The project aims in understanding the complex web of colonisation expansion of an ancient metropolis, through an enriched interdisciplinary research field and new visual and experiential initiatives for showcasing the subject.

The project's overall results is included in the travelling exhibition "APOIKIA: a story of human movements". The exhibition is about showcasing research results on reconstruction and reconstitution of everyday life, nutrition and genetical history of past populations that migrated to settle in new lands (research of metropolis-colony relations). The exhibition was designed in this context, incorporating rich multimedia material, digital interactive applications and audiovisual productions.

The project was implemented within the National Scope Action "Open Innovation in Culture" and was co-funded by the European Union and national funds through the Special Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPAnEK 2014-2020) and ESPA 2014-2020. Project code: Τ6ΥΒΠ-00191.
